Type 1: $75 to $150 (1884 to 1885Notes(1): The plane originally had a closed throat until 1892 when it was chnged to an open throat. The No. 71 1/2 was introduced in 1896 with a closed throat. Later type were supplied with a removable fence. Several design changes over th years for the cutter adjust and throat closing features. The No. 71 remains popular among woodworkers today.
Type 1 has 3/4/1884patnt in the round border at the throat opeing. Type 2 has "Stanley" and No. 71 cast in base alng with patent date. Type 3 is the same except nickel plated.
